Art for Pleasure & Investment

The Horsebox Gallery aims to help people gain more pleasure (and profit, if that’s what they’re looking for) from their life in art.

"Whilst working with a variety of private investors and collectors, often business men or women working in the city, there was a reoccurring desire to peep into the world of art but being afraid by the ‘I know nothing about art’ reservation”, says Emma.

“The difficulty is that art people can tend either to be rather posey about how ‘challenging’ everything must be, or they’re snobby about how ‘exclusive’ everything must be.  By ‘challenging’ they often mean ‘ugly’ and by ‘exclusive’ they often mean ‘expensive’.

“...modern people aren’t really impressed by that attitude as much, but they may be put off by it.”

Emma continues:  “At one level, there’s a demand for people to be advised on making the right decisions when investing their money in art.  But there’s also a taste for the spirit of it all”

“I think there’s a huge appetite for the work art of every kind can do.  It can be a challenge but also a solace.  Art opens people up.  They don’t always show it, and that’s not the point. But they know it."

Jane adds:

“We want to offer a rolling programme of events which help people find whatever it is they want out of art.”

The Horsebox Gallery will invite guests to come to events and enjoy art, and – if they want – talk about it and be taught about it.
